The Position: This position is supported by the F. Hoffmann-La Roche Pharma through the Roche Post-doctoral Fellowship Program. The work will be performed in close collaboration with researchers at Roche. The initial position is for one year but is extended for another two years after completion of the goals for the first year.Please note that the working place will be at Uppsala University, Sweden. The PhD project will be performed in Professor Per Artursson’s research group (Drug Delivery) at Uppsala University. The Drug delivery group is comprised of about ten researchers of which half are PhD’s, performs research of highest international standard and is among the most cited in the world in the fields of pharmacy and pharmacology. The research is founded on in vitro studies of ADMET (absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination, toxicity) properties of drugs. Expertise in physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling (PBPK) and structure-property relationships will contribute to the project. In the research group, models based on differential equations for advanced analysis of cellular pharmacokinetics are currently developed. The overall goal of the project is to develop transparent in silico models for how structural changes in drug molecules influence pharmacokinetic ADMET-properties. The models will be linked to existing PBPK-models in close collaboration with researchers at Roche. The main motive for developing this software is to expand the use of in silico simulations for structure effect relationships (SER) also to chemist for the purpose ofi) predict PK data from the molecular structures of new drug candidates andii) investigate the impact of structural modifications on such data.Thus, so-called ‘what-if’-functionalities should be built into the software. Medical Writing

Napp Pharmaceuticals is part of a worldwide association of independent pharmaceutical companies that have been developing vital new drugs for more than half a century. Napp pioneered the creation of prolonged release drugs, particularly for the relief of severe pain. Napp’s Medical Communications team works closely with the Sales and Marketing Department, to provide in-house medical writing and creative design to support Napp’s pain, oncology and respiratory brands. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a one year Placement.

Educated to at least first degree level (with a 2.1 grade or above) in a medically-relevant life science, you will need to demonstrate a flair for translating complex scientific information into plain English, a scrupulous attention to detail, the ability to learn about new therapeutic areas rapidly, and a passion for creating effective communications that target your audience.
